Role Summary
The Substitute Preschool Instructor provides temporary instructional and classroom support to ensure continuity of care for children ages 2–5. You will work in alignment with California Department of Education (CDE) frameworks and Title 22 regulations to maintain a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide developmentally appropriate instruction and supervision.
- Maintain a safe and clean classroom meeting Title 22 health and safety standards.
- Support social-emotional development and positive behavior.
- Implement classroom routines and transitions as directed.
- Supervise children during play, meals, and rest periods.
- Maintain appropriate child-to-staff ratios.
- Communicate professionally with staff and families.
Qualifications & Requirements
To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Must hold one of the following: Child Development Associate Teacher permit (or higher), Emergency 30-Day Substitute Permit, Emergency Substitute Permit for Prospective Teachers, or a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential.
- Pediatric CPR and First Aid training.
- Ability to pass DOJ/FBI fingerprint clearance and health screenings.
- Previous experience in a licensed childcare setting is preferred.
Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of early childhood development practices.
- Familiarity with Title 22 Community Care Licensing regulations.
- Ability to manage classroom behavior using trauma-informed approaches.
- Flexibility to adapt to different classroom structures with minimal notice.
- Valuing cultural, ethnic, and linguistic diversity.
